Abstract: Software evolution requires an intelligent planning of evolution and main-tenance activities in an organization. Intelligent planning means integrating the long-term strategy of a product_s evolution with short-term maintenance activities. This paper describes a successful example of software evolution in the context of the ap-plied-research project APPLICATION2WEB. The paper describes experience in transferring technology into a small company to realize web services based on a legacy system. The project covered all necessary activities including reverse engineering, domain analysis, architecture analysis, and middleware integration.
